Lighting Upgrade to Energy Efficient Lighting

Among numerous efficiency upgrades at Vermont Green Offices, all lights were converted from incandescent bulbs to fluorescent lighting. Additionally, all CFL bulbs have since been replaced with LED lighting (January, 2011).

Adding Heating Zone in Conference Room with BTU Submetering
The entire first floor was heated using a single zone connected to the boiler. This resulted in overheating of half of the building and the conference room continually cold. A second zone was added with a cast-iron radiator in the conference room to increase comfort and decrease natural gas consumption. Two BTU meters were installed in this zone to measure the heating load of the new zone. These meters will be used for meter testing and integrated into a Building Management System when implemented.
Replacement of Manual Thermostats with Programmable Thermostats
The two manual thermostats at Vermont Green Offices were replaced with programmable thermostats to save energy. A standard LUX programmable thermostat was installed on the first floor along with a Proliphix smart programmable thermostat on the second floor. The proper settings of the thermostats are being tweaked because of the unique insulation, solar gain and thermal mass of the passive solar building.
